My Beautiful Home on a Lake

How do you tell about your life, the last 41 years, in a few lines?  This is my way!

Family:  Married in November 1965 and Divorced January 1975.  three sons, Theodore Franklin Hughes, August 1966; David Michel Hughes, July 1967; and Robert Christopher Hughes, October 1969. I have never become a grandmother!

Occupations:  Telephone Company -  Southern Bell and Pacific Bell
Charleston Naval Shipyard - Retired December 1995

Military Life: US Marine Corps - October 1964 - February 1966,
US Army Reserves - April 1973 - January 1994; retired as a Master Sergeant

Education:
Associates Degree, August 1975; BA from Limestone College, SC, December 1994;  MA from Webster College, St. Louis, MO, May 1996.

Travel:  I have been in every state except Alaska.  I have also been in Canada, England, the Gambia, Africa, Romania, France, Scotland, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.  I enjoy traveling.

I moved from Charleston, SC to Sumter SC, in November 1998.   I still play my saxophone and am in my church orchestra and the Sumter Community Concert Band.

I am a substitute teacher at Sumter High School.

My favorite Hobbies: Are working in my yard, my little heaven on earth, and doing genealogy.  If you have an ancestor from SC, you can go to http://SingletonFamily.org and see if your ancestor/s are listed.  If you can make a connection, let me know.

I have joined the SC State Guard which is the old State Militia. It’s a volunteer organization dating back to 1670 at Charlestowne, on Albermarle Point, Charleston, South Carolina.

The SC Militia units provided defense for the state from 1775-1780 and were reformed into three brigades under General Francis Marion in the Low Country, General Thomas Sumter in the Midlands and General Andrew Pickens in the Piedmont (upstate).  They served until the departure of the British forces in 1782.

My Goals: I’ve done almost everything that I have wanted to do. I would love to be a grandmother, but have given up on that.

I still want to see Alaska.

" I Still think I will live to be 81 years of age and die in my sleep."
